Equine Diagnostic Solutions, LLC (EDS), located in Lexington, Kentucky on the Coldstream Research Park Campus, was founded in August of 2009 by Jennifer Morrow, PhD and Amy Graves, MT. Jennifer and Amy had been working together since 1999 in the original start-up company performing western blot analysis for Sarcocystis neurona, the causative agent of equine protozoal myeloencephalitis (EPM). As that business grew and added testing it also changed ownership. The last owners closed the Lexington laboratory leaving the local horse industry in need of local testing. With guidance from the Kentucky Small Business Development Center and support from the Central Kentucky horse industry, EDS Lab was started. While EDS lab continued to perform the 1st generation western blot for S. neurona they were committed to help validate and commercialize the 2nd generation SAG 2/4/3 ELISA for S. neurona and the serum:CSF ratio which has provided much improved diagnostics for EPM. EDS holds the exclusive license for this test. EDS has also been a leader in Streptococcus equi testing, offering both the SeM ELISA and multiplex real-time PCR for S. equi.
Since its opening in 2009, EDS lab has been committed to providing relevant, accurate, expedient, high quality, and accessible testing services for equine veterinarians worldwide. Our test offerings focus on serologic and molecular assays that aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of equine infectious diseases with significant medical and economic impact.
